The longer we live, the more we realize that the shorter our time is for beginning and living our lives. The clock ticks continuously, never giving us a break to even catch our breath. The few moments of silence you had after you were let out of your mama’s womb, before you cried out to herald your arrival, is all the catching of breath you will ever need on this God-given earth.
Someone said, “the longest time of your life are the months you spent in the uterus”. Once you’re out, the clock never slows down, rather it automatically begins the countdown of your life!
The fear of taking the first step, the fear of opening the door, to a world already built in our dreams, is a paralysis that has crippled many even as their clock ticks by. The mind visualizes the goal, but the head analyzes the process. The mind smiles from the destination, while the heart feels the pain of the process. The tangibility of the destination isn’t up for debate. We know we can, we are sure of our abilities and capabilities, yet we allow ‘emotional feelings’ immobilize us with the taser of forces beyond our control.
We believe we can make it, we believe we are capable, yet we hesitate to make the move. We think of family, friends, environment and society. We think upon the necessary startup fails, the discouragement, the doubts, the misinterpretations, and we decide we won’t open the door to the future we need.
It’s even worse for the well educated and intellects of this world. We know the theories, infact, we propounded some. We’ve carried out numerous experiments just to test the viability of our hypothesis. So we lay out the facts and analyze the process in our minds…by the way, this analysis is capable of taking us forever. Valuable time that could have been spent daring the elements and stepping out into the murky waters of destiny. We are too posh to take such ‘foolish risk’, so we’ll rather set up a board meeting in the conference room of our minds trying to see the end from the beginning before we make a move. In another news, we are just doubting Thomases!
We mask our fear under the ‘concealer’ called Planning! Wait a minute! I hear somebody coming to take a shot at me. I never said planning was bad, I just meant planning can never successfully live a single life. It ought to be married to strategy if it will ever give birth to the goal! (Yea, l give you a minute to digest that)
Other times, we delay the future, we even make excuses for it. We hide under the cloak of perfectionism, not realizing we are actually, toying with procrastination. Nothing ever will be perfect! Nothing ever has been and nothing ever will. Even the word ‘perfect’ isn’t PERFECT!
We must come to the realization that the journey to the future we seek to build will never be a superhighway void of sharp bends, bumps and obstacles. Rather, it is a path we will have to create ourselves as we cut through the dense forest of the wild unknown.
We will have to create our unique path, as we navigate through and over the mountains of obstructions, full of valleys, valleys of indecision and ‘thorns’ of vegetation into fruits of productivity.
The future is ours, but we can only claim it if we begin now. So open that door and step into your new moon!
